Our Head Chef and Proprietor Charlie Bartlett began his career training at The Poussin Restaurant, Brockenhurst, where he ignited his passion for elegant dining. After finishing his training, he moved to the Seaview Hotel developing a natural flair and quickly defining his distinctive style, resulting in spending the next 10 years as Head Chef and achieving two AA Rosettes.

Continuing to create fresh and innovative ideas Charlie then oversaw the opening of a new restaurant, The Net in Bembridge where he remained as Head Chef for a number of years. In 2003 he moved on to assist in creating a new dining experience in Newport on the Isle of Wight, Lugley's Restaurant where his rustic yet sophisticated style thrived and developed.

His next move was to The Garlic Farm in Newchurch, where his creativity thrived. Crafting and evolving a wide range of chutney's and dressings as well as constructing a themed yet tasteful menu for a brand new on site farm restaurant. Charlie thoroughly enjoyed his time at The Garlic Farm but throughout his career had aspired to create a dining experience that was solely his own. After working at The Waxworks Café and Bar for a year he was given that exact opportunity.

Charlie instantly relished the freedom of constructing his own menus, but still he aspired to superior premises to allow his creativity to fully flourish, and that brings us to The Duck, once Bombay Palace, the empty shell of a building provided an excellent opportunity to create a fresh new eating destination for Ryde, perfectly situated with views of the Solent over the canoe lake.
